Rock Star 03:44
Well I'm a god damn Rock Star, you know I can't help myself, Well it couldn't come back too soon, now I'm gonna sleep 'till noon. Posted up in a rust belt parking lot, we came down here to get our share, Of the little that they got, little they got. Ride away in a big black train, everybody knows it's a gilded cage, But it's better than anything, better than everything. The lights go down and we come alive, vampire lovers in a song, And in the morning we're gone, morning is gone. 'Cause I'm a god damn Rock Star, you know I can't help myself, Never mind what you loose, go ahead and play the blues. And as we wind on down the road, I been thinkin' to myself, 'baby that's how it goes.' Kicked us out of a West Coast parking lot, We came out here to give 'em everything we got, we gave 'em everything, we gave 'em everything. I ask myself just what it all means, at the end of days in a cocaine dread, baby Something wrong with you, Something wrong with me, Whispers in the walls and everything. I'm a god damn Rock Star, you know I can't help myself, Doesn't matter what you choose, go ahead and play the blues. 'Cause I'm a god damn Rock Star, you know I can't help myself, It couldn't come back too soon, now I'm gonna sleep 'till noon.

Song of Marx 03:57
Every time I see sparks I hear Marx, They're protesting down in the park, I think I'll go another day. I wrote another song on a lark, Faith takes science into art, proceeding and practicing, Just prior to understanding. Do, do, do, do it, Take me into that music. Baby, do, do, do, do it, Take me into that music. So give me a Bernstein symphony, It's the only way I see, to fight police and thieves. Let me hear your guitars play that Rage, And they won't let history turn the page, and bend to right from wrong, They didn't listen to the song. Cause it's all in the music, Baby listen to the music, Cause it's all in that music, Baby listen to the music. Every time I see sparks I hear Marx, They're protesting down in the park, we can't wait another day. So write another song, build that Ark, Faith takes science into art, proceeding and practicing, Just prior to understanding. Do, do, do, do it, Take me into that music. Baby, do, do, do, do it, Take me into the music.

Little creepies in my mind, someone told me long ago, Rules from compromises made, we no longer make today. Liberation given time, for where but eternity, In our patient steady breath, nirvana swells up from the ground. Thanks is in my joy and grace, love has brought me to this place, With peaceful grateful heart, I accept, my success. Little creepies in my mind, tales told all the time, Rules from compromises made, we no longer make today. Little creepies there you are, when I close my eyes, In the dark you swim about, like a worm inside my mind.

Well I went down to the party, they was all drinkin' that beer, The way those cans were popin' top, it filled my gut with fear. Jumped on to my bike I rode to the winery it wasn't to far. I rewarded myself with a nice pinot, 'cause I rode right by the bar. I just drink one bottle of wine at a time, I just drink one bottle of wine at a time, Some folks might drink more or less, don't you know that's fine, I just drink one bottle of wine at a time. Ale and stout and IPA, we got it all up here, Widmer, Upright and the Rogue, these beers are all quite dear. But when I drink like that you know I won't be gettin' too far, And one thing that I know for sure, I don't drink no PBR. I just drink one bottle of wine at a time, I just drink one bottle of wine at a time, Some folks might drink more or less, don't you know that's fine, I just drink one bottle of wine at a time. Gonna get my self some tequila, when I get my credit on the credit card, 'cause there's a bottle I hope is gonna last. Last at least until, I get back to the vineyard, And get my hands on a bottle I can kill. I just drink one bottle of wine at a time, I just drink one bottle of wine at a time, Some folks might drink more or less, don't you know that's fine, I just drink one bottle of wine at a time. I just drink one bottle of wine at a time. Unless it's a party, and I got some people over, I'm just drinkin' one bottle of wine at a time.

about

Four songs for the end of the world. Caution to the wind. One last chance to rock, kids, before it all goes up in smoke. Here are a few of the recordings I’ve made over the past, well, ten or so years. Maybe they’re ‘demos’ it’s hard to say these days, perhaps y’all will dig it enough for me to expand and maybe even put together a band and perform some of this stuff live.

Rock Star - I wrote this one down in Charlotte NC, on the G. Love tour. I’ve been playing the chords in various ways for years, it’s based on one of the oldest progressions in music - basso continuo technically, dating back to the Iberian peninsula nearly at the dawn of recorded history.

Song of Marx - This one came to me sitting at my old piano, ruminating on the shattered state of the political world. You know, the religious and their gods don’t have a monopoly on ‘faith.’ Even us atheists have faith - in rationality, in Nature, Art, and our fellow man. Faith allows science to transform into art, in the adaptive unconscious where our ultimate truth lives.

Little Creepies - I recorded this one at my old studio ‘JamBox’ down in Southeast Portland. I re-arranged it a few time since then, but I’m kind of digging this version now, despite a lyrical mistake or two. Man it was fun, overdubbing loud as hell with a whole shitload of amps and distortion. I was playing Matty’s Gibson SG - aping a little Sonny Sharrock vibe there. It’s another song about how our brains work and the thoughts and feelings in our subconscious that perhaps don’t serve us as well as they used to. I include some gratitude on the bridge, as song and poetry is truly prayer.

One Bottle of Wine (At a Time) - This one I wrote offhandedly on my classical guitar that I keep next to my couch upstairs. It’s from one of my many imaginary albums called “Songs for a Gluten Free Cowboy.” I love beer, but yea, it doesn’t really agree with me - back then I was drinking wine instead. When the bridge came to me, I was like, “hey this is kind of a cool song!” I corralled G. Love to cut some slide guitar one time when we were rehearsing down in Arizona, for the authentic country feel.

I do hope you enjoy them, I will spare you my qualms on my singing. If you’re inclined to kick down some bread for the download, it will go a long way towards me releasing more of my singer songwriter material. Thanks for your ears in any event.
