Bass True Harmony

This piece is based on the small frequency difference in the third note of the scale and the fifth partial of the waveform. On the Strings Bass with its first string of G this note would be B natural. We can also sound the ninth partial on the A string, which is a slightly different B natural.

The open G string is sounded followed by its fifth partial which is looped delayed into a steady and rich tone. This is perhaps our Pythagorean third and the remainder of the overdubs will use the conventional 12 tone B natural to elucidate our political expression and the compromises that we've made in the West.

Today it seems the final tone painting, alas, interprets the cruelty and randomness of our nature and politic in disorder and atonality. The wah effect creates an artificial modulation that mimics the beats between the two B naturals. Twelve or thirty two, sixty four, that is the message of the irrational numbers, we are only approximating true harmony, until our sound proceeds beyond into the chasm of pure perception.

It feels like an echo of some of my much earlier work, an unreleased cassette that featured and errant toilet valve and oddly resonant plumbing system in my apartment on the Fens in Boston. The excessive noise recalls my previous method of dubbing from my walkman cassette to the audio channels of a VCR, and back.

I hope to reframe this piece, more to my intentions in the first paragraph, as a symphonic exploration so all proceeds from you download will go toward that end.
